Raritan Township Receives Bronze Sustainable Jersey Re-Certification
RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Raritan Township is proud to announce it was awarded their bronze-level Sustainable Jersey recertification at the Sustainable Jersey Annual Luncheon during the New Jersey League of Municipalities (“NJLM”) Conference in Atlantic City Tuesday, Nov. 18.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Township joins Sustainable Jersey's 471 participating communities – nearly 83% of the State's municipalities that satisfied the rigorous requirements to achieve Bronze.
The Township was first certified Bronze in 2011, implementing solutions to crucial environmental challenges through its Environmental Commission and Green Team – from waste reduction and recycling to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and protecting natural resources.
“This would not be possible if it weren’t for the tremendous hardworking, dedication and commitment of our entire team,” said Mayor Bob King. “This is a result of all the great work our entire team does. Thank you for continuing to make our township a great place to live.”
To be among the local government agencies certified by Sustainable Jersey as one of their recognized municipalities, the Township provided documentary evidence of their commitment to sustainability. Examples submitted include but are not limited to updated ordinances, programs, policies and procedures, and facility improvements.
According to Maureen Jones, program coordinator for Sustainable Jersey, Raritan Township has been certified previously in the 2014, 2017, 2022, 2023, and 2024 application cycles – all at the bronze designation.
To qualify for certification, applicants must complete a fixed number of objectives and are evaluated by subject matter experts on a point-based scale, with 150 points as the requisite to achieve Bronze status. This year, Raritan Township earned 290 points according to the Township’s Sustainable Jersey profile.
The next certification the Commission aspires to accomplish is a silver-level designation, which requires 350 points. If you'd like to get involved and help the Township reach silver or to sign-up for notifications about the upcoming events and other future volunteer activities and Commission-sponsored meetings, email:
