Let’s explore some New Jersey state parks! Join us to tour Allaire Village in Allaire State Park in Wall Township. This was once an iron-producing factory town for the Howell Iron Works owned by James P. Allaire. It was a self-sufficient community with a carpentry and pattern-making shop, a blacksmith shop, a bakery, a boarding house, a blast furnace, mills to finish iron products, a school, a church, a general store with a post office, and workers’ homes. The iron produced in Allaire Village was used for steam engine parts. After lunch we will visit the New Jersey Forest Resource Education Center in Jackson. We will tour the NJ Forest Service Nursery and visit the interpretive center to learn about the importance of trees and forestry to our state. Please bring a bagged lunch and water for the day.
