Backpacking 101

Ages: 10 through adult | All children must be accompanied by an adult also registered for the program.

Do you love hiking but want to go for longer distances than you can travel in a day? Do you want to get away from it all and spend time in remote nature? Do you dream of exploring iconic destinations like the Appalachian Trail or the backcountry of national parks? Have you ever dreamed of living simply, with just what you can carry on your back? Then backpacking is for you! Naturalist Laura Bush has been backpacking since 2009 and now has hiked over 50% of the Appalachian Trail, as well as other overnight destinations. She will go over what to bring, where to go, and how to pack your backpack.
